Bones ran a hand tiredly over his face then blinked a couple of times before he held up a thin test tube with a purple liquid. He knew this was a last-ditch effort and if this didn't work...He didn't even want to think about that. He carefully moved down the table and slowly poured the liquid into a small beaker that was filled with your blood.

He waited for a reaction and none came. He let out a long and ragged sigh as he sat down. A part of him wished that Starfleet would let him use Khan's blood to revive you, but knew that they wouldn't let him. He would break laws for you--do anything--to bring you back to him, but getting to Khan would be impossible.

Bones was no covert operative and he would need to be one just to get to the room where Khan and his crew were being stored. He wouldn't admit this, but a part of knew that it was time to give up. He was running out of ideas and hope in his abilities. Bones looked at a frame which housed and protected a picture of you that he took when you weren't looking. He ran a finger up and down your cheek then whispered, "I'm sorry, (y/n). Your faith and believing in me just isn't going to cut it this time. Forgive me."

He stared at your smiling face for a few moments before he slowly stood up and gathered his PADD's with pressing work and emails that he had yet to respond to. He shoved everything carelessly into his messenger bag before moving toward the door. Bones turned off the lights before he walked out of his lab.

What he didn't notice was that the beaker had changed to a glowing gold hue. He had found the cure to bring you back.
